Pearls for Annie

FROM JOHN

After much reflection, I propose the following addendum to the Web site based on the importance of determination. The quote is from Calvin Coolidge:

Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful with talent.

Genius will not: unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.

Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts.

Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.

Though Coolidge was a mediocre President, this quote shows the importance of persistence and determination. In my life, persistence and determination together allowed me to earn the Ph.D. Many of my classmates were very bright, some geniuses; others had stronger academic backgrounds. Many did not finish. My persistence and determination enabled me to finish the task.

I am sure that whatever Annie does with her life; she will find that persistence and determination are necessary to achieve whatever goals she sets.
